To all new moviemakers:

I am an aspiring moviemaker, which means I haven't made one damn movie yet, so buying Lloyd's book,"Make your own damn movie", has given me inspiration again. However, when Lloyd signed his book for me and wrote: "To Ron, Your art will be better than Troma!", I suddenly felt a breeze of hope, which was followed just as quickly by a feeling of despair. I know he was just kidding, but nevertheless, here's a guy who has toiled in the movie industry for most of his life and he feels I have a chance to make an artistic movie with very little knowledge and background.

I want to enter the movie industry because I like the creative side. Lloyd is living proof that if you stick to it long enough, success will come.
After reading his book, I was curious about what kind of person he really is. When I heard he was coming to Borders in Tucson, I made time to see him. He comes across as sincere and vivacious. He is a joy to listen to. I came away from his appearance at Borders with a renewed outlook on life. I know his movies are meant for laughs and anyone who takes him seriously has a few loose wires upstairs. He looks a lot like Mel Brooks and he may think Mel Brooks looks a lot like him. I guess it depends upon who made their first movie.

Lloyd tells it like it is and doesn't pull any punches. I know making a living as a movie producer/director is a difficult career path and that most people who try will fail- that's just statistics speaking. But, I have known that for years and years now. Listening to people like Lloyd speak will inspire any aspiring moviemaker. We need to see and listen to those that have made it in this business. The desire is rooted deep and can be traced all the way back to one's childhood days because those were the days when we, as children, felt nothing can stop us from doing anything we wanted to achieve. If only we can carry that trait with us all the way through our adult lives, then nothing, really can stop us. Lloyd haven't forgotten that childhood rule. I am often overwhelmed by the immensity of the movie making process. Reading books like Mr. Kaufman's "Make your own damn movie", has revived my hope. He breaks it down into manageable pieces- and the reading is fun and full of anecdotes. This book is therapeutic too!! A must read for anyone who loves stories about movie makers and even more beneficial to those of us who are still trying to make movies 'R business. Thanks Lloyd for coming to Tucson.

PS- Lloyd, are you blind? I raised my hand to ask you a question about 3 or 4 times and you kept looking past me!! Did I forget my anti-perspirant?

I watched one of your pannels at Dragon Con on Friday. I am the author of 3 poetry books and have done work as a writing consultant on various shows over the years. Although I seem to lack the endurance for an entire show, I would love to have my ideas used again. If any of you could use my services please let me know.

I've been in the post-production end of movies for 25 years now, working on such films as "Return of the Jedi", the "Robocop" films and both "Scooby Doo" movies. I even won a VFX Emmy for "Lost". So with all that Hollywood cred, when I decided to self-finance my own movie, why the hell would I turn to Troma and Lloyd Kaufman?

Let me repeat. I Made My Own Damn Movie with My Own Damn Money! If you want to find out how to deal with actors, location problems, meal allowances and portable toilet issues (and laugh out loud while you actually learn something) get this book/DVD set. believe me, no one is going to give you $200 million to make the next "Pirates of the Transformers" movie. But when a book teaches you that a Location Manager's job is to make sure there's a place to shit, you know you're getting a lesson from someone who's been there. (I mean on location, not shitting.)
.
Learn the ropes from someone who's been making independent low budget films for as long as you can remember. Hell, Lloyd probably has socks older than you. Long live Troma!
